It’s raining.  Pancakes again. Lots of indoor chores to do.  Bought a couple of water colours at Lorne Shantz art show here at Shawl Bay.  Weather cleared.  “Black Tie” here.  Happy hour is always lots of fun.  Dinner on “Ladner Lass”.

Another beautiful day.  Goodbye Allyson and heading back to Shawl Bay with “Ladner Lass”.  Whale rose right in front of us in the Stuart narrows.  Not sure who was more frightened him or us?  We all sat around and enjoyed the sun.  Les on “Sun Breeze” caught us up on the saga of the Broughtons.  Great dinner on Marko and Jamie’s then we went for a gunk in “Peaire” and had a fabulous whale show right out front.

The War Canoe “Welcome” now hangs in the main guest seating area.  Shawn, Loren, Mike and our Gail all going to Pt Hardy.  “Shaman”  “Over the Edge” will start heading south tomorrow morning.  Good prawning in Moore Bay.  Headed for Jennis Bay to meet up with Jamie & Marko and Cajun night. Lots of dolphins dancing for us on the way there.  Jennis is a very busy place, boats are all rafted, and several like us anchored out.  Allyson’s last Cajun Night.  She supplies the Cajun part and everyone brings a side dish. Great time had by all.  David made her a wooden keep and take south with her when she leaves.  Had chats with owners of “Deer Leap”, “Nimpkish” and “Walronda” also here.

Overcast then a sunny afternoon.  David worked on and finished the War Canoe sign.  Helped Mike (of Shawl Bay) on a wood working project.  Had a relaxing day and watched another great sunset.

Happy Anniversary.  Another pancake breakfast with more stories.  Its 82 degrees at Shawl Bay.  David’s making a sign and I’m working on Oceanaire’s teak still. It’s a potluck dinner and so very good. Betty, Mike, Bob and Pat arrived.  Good to see them.  Gunked over to Moore Bay for ‘last sun’.  The dogs had a good romp. Another wonderful day. 46 years..Wow!

Turned into a wonderful sunny day. Pancake breakfast. “Walronda” and "Nimpkish" (1944) leaving along with many other boats.  David starting another carving this time a war canoe for Shawl Bay.  Allison, Orion and Charlie came in from Jennis Bay.  They will be leaving Jennis Bay next week to go south.  Had a good visit, but we will truly miss them.  Got some Cetoling done.  Good happy hour.  Trading many great stories exchanged.

Sullivan Bay Looks Busy

Very Busy At Shawl Bay

Overcast, underway with "Nut n’ Special" to Shawl Bay.  Nice trip.  Saw “Sea Wolf” at Sullivan.  It looked like a full house at Sullivan Bay.  Shawl very full too.  Shawn and Loren found us a spot.  Their son Rob isn’t here this summer, but Mike who was here a couple of years ago is back. They have done so much work here.  They could hardly wait to show us.   The fireplace and eating is great.  Large crowd for the great turkey dinner and we enjoyed it with so many old friends.

July 21, 2011

Started off with slight drizzle, but turned sunny in the afternoon.  Gary & Keith on“Longview” (fellow BYC member) are off to Shawl Bay for the night.  David and I working on artwork and computer. Went for a shore walk.  No bears here this time, but apparently wolves have been sighted.

Raining. Breakfast on “Ladner Lass”.  Got fuel at Quarterdeck $1.16 (incl HST) less cost than Vancouver, and propane $18.  Said “goodbye” to Marko and Jamie, they are flying out to Vancouver this morning for Marko’s Mom’s 90th birthday. They’ll be back in five days.   Weather station says “gale” warning for Queen Charlotte Strait today”, but we had a nice flat trip to Wells Passage.  Talked to Gail and Jim MacLeod “Nut n Special” on VHF and are meeting them and “LongView” in Tracey Harbour at Napier Bay.  Tied up to the old logging dock with them.  Scupper glad to be able to roam ashore and pick berries.  Unfortunately there are wolves here so he can’t go on his own.

Overcast, but not raining.  Washed “Oceanaire”.  Met a boater that used to live in Alaska and tried to cross Dixon Entrance just after we had crossed.  Said he was waiting at Pr Rupert and the weather just didn’t get better, so he couldn’t go north.  We were so lucky.  Had lunch at the hotel.  Borrowed the truck again and picked up food and grog.  The guys walked to Stryker to check out marine stuff and Jamie and I walked to town to buy some coats and shirts ½ to ¾ off price.  Found the dollars store too.

Sunny and we decide to head to Port Hardy a day early so that we can pick up our parts for our outboard and order new ones for Marko’s genset.  Lovely, slow trip down the Island shore.  Lots of people out fishing in little boats.  Got the last two berths at Quarterdeck.  Lunch at the pub, checked out the marine store, and then off to town to pick up our parts at the Post Office.  (Our kids did a good job coordinating getting them here.) We borrowed a truck from the Marina. Jamie and I walked to town and along the beach.  Met a lady, who like David, talks to Ravens.  She had one sitting right beside her.

This is the big day, we are going around Cape Caution!  Sunny with low swells.  A Great Crossing.  Five hours to Nigei Island and we anchored in Clam Bay.  Nice spot.  Just one large rock at the entrance and we managed to miss it.  There is a large float camp and a small dock to where some loggers are building.  They brought in a nice size halibut.  Saw small deer on the beach.  Marko’s generator is not working.  He’s reading up on what parts he needs, but we don’t have cell phone.  They go off for a gunk and fishing.  Dave chased some wood problems and I did some wood finishing.
