Home to Vancouver

Kids left to join friends at Buccaneer Bay on Thormanby Island.  It’s a great place to play on the beach.  We left later in the afternoon and were just in time to see them going back to Smugglers Cove.

Decided, because the water was smooth and it was such a great day, to go all the way home to Burrard Yacht Club in North Vancouver.  Arrived in the dark at about 9pm.  Feels good to be back home, with so many fabulous memories of friends met and places we look forward to returning too.

Hope you enjoyed our travels and that you too will have the opportunity to cruise to Alaska and along our spectacular British Columbia Coast.  Thank you.

Hot again.  Scupper is still very unstable and in fact yesterday tipped over and fell into the water at the dock.  David was quick rescuing him.  We walked over to Hospital Bay for lunch with the kids at Lavern’s.  Having trouble with our Telus again.

Very hot.  Gunked over to Madeira for David to get a haircut at the purple house and to pick up supplies at IGA.  Tracey and team did the Pender Paradox treasure hunt just for fun and did a fabulous job.  We had a great happy hour with kids, and friends.

More Magnificent Sunsets

Great day.  Left Ballet with Jim & Gail heading for Pender Harbour.  Quite rough out here.  Probably the roughest that we have had on our whole trip.  Saw a large red patch of red tide.  Met up with Tracey & Kelly, only ones at the BYC dock.  All the others are heading south to Vancouver.  Good to see the kids and granddaughters again.

It rained and blew last night.  We took Scupper for a walk out on one of the outside islands and I’d say it was blowing 25 to 30 knots out on Malaspina Strait today judging from the huge waves.  Drew & Tracey called from BYC Pender Harbour to say that it was a mad house there last night and today with many boats losing anchor and heading for other boats and the shore in the harsh winds.  We are still snug at anchor in Ballet Bay.  Lots of willi waas (swirling wind) but its okay.

Friendly Deer

We are Not Buying the Store

Egmont

Longview“, “Banook” and “A’Capella” left us this morning.  Sounds like the weather is changing and they wanted to start heading south.  David & I went off in “Peaire” north on Jervis and west to Egmont.  Saw a deer at the north end of Nelson.  A few scattered old cabins along the way..  Not many people here right now.  Scupper had another small stroke getting off at the government dock, but he walked up to the store with us and both of them are still going strong at Egmont.  No cell service so couldn’t ask those in Ballet is they wanted us to pick up stuff.  Crossed the wake of the BC Ferry that goes from Earls to Saltery Bay twice.  Our son Drew VHF’d us that they were travelling south passed Cape Cockburn and heading toward Pender Harbour.

We took our dinghy and went around to Hidden Basin behind us on Nelson Island. In Billings Bay we came across a full survival suit laying out on the rocks (been there a long time) and an old boat that had been beached and stripped.  The heron found it interesting too.  Hidden Basin has a small tidal bore at the entrance, but goes a long way in.  There is an interesting round house near the end.

Got cell service for a very short time and got a message that our daughter Tracey and son Drew are still up in Laura Cove, Desolation Sound.  It’s a great place for the kids.  They rope swing, swim, water ski and gunk all around.  How lucky can you be! Saw another baby eagle on Clio Island.  Still working on painting “Oceanaire”.

A few more boats anchored in the harbour around us.  We are now five boats and stern tied to the beach, so we don’t take up too much room. Can't get cell or internet herem but it is a fabulous day!

Sunny and warm at Ballet Bay.  Sue & Neil on “Grey Pearl” have left us.  We are doing more repairs and painting on “Oceanaire”.  Blind Channel is where Ballet Bay is located.  It was very busy in the early 1900’s with canning plant, and boatbuilding facility.  David met a gentleman who was touring in his dinghy and stopped to talk.  He went to school in Ballet Bay in 1948.  He says there is nothing left of the school now.

Another fabulous day.  Jim & Gail on “Nut’N’Special and Gary on “Longview” have come south to join us. We are still going strong on the sanding and painting “Oceanaire”.

"Oceanaire" at Sailpast
Posted by Picasa
Only a couple of boat left at the Dock.  Left to go to Ballet Bay on Nelson Island with “A’Capella” Doug & Rosemary (David’s sister), “Grey Pearl” Neil and Sue and “Banook” Rob & Wanda.  Absolutely fabulous day.  Kayaked for several hours with Sue. Passed by the old Spilsbury estate.  He has written some of the best books on our B.C. Coast.  They have so many great pictures of our early life here.  He was in his eighties many years ago when he came to BYC as a speaker for an evening.
