Rafted in the Walker Group

Stellar Sea Lions

Pulteney Light

Alert Bay

Back on the Strait. Took pics of Alert Bay named after the HMS Alert that surveyed it in 1867.  Passed the Pulteney Lighthouse across from Pt McNeill.  Tony went in for some supplies.  We all carried in the Walker Group.  NW chop approx 2’ high.  We all tied on the existing buoy.  Only other boat was “Sequel” a sailboat with Steve and Sue.  Took “Peaire” our dinghy out to see a colony of sea lions.  Really big and fierce.

Strange Jelly Fish
Mom Grizzly with Two Cubs
Pictographs Going Into Pt Harvey
Snow Covered Mountains

Caught the tide out through the Gilliards and Dent rapids.  There’s lots of snow on the mountains.  Passed Cardero Bay.  Doesn’t look like there is anyone here.  The owner was not well last year and they are no longer here after so many years.  In the Green Point rapids there is a large log tow coming toward us, but there’s lot of room and the water is smooth.  Out Chancellor and on to Johnstone Strait.  Wind and tide good, so it’s a great trip up the Havanah and Pt. Harvey.
Saw pictographs before we got into the marina.  The store has been moved to the other side of the main dock.   We were told that a large she bear with two cubs has been hanging around.  We got pics of them across the lagoon.  The restaurant is not open yet.  We had fish and chips and pizza here last year. Found a floating sponge and weird jelly fish.  Tony & Gayle arrived.  They came all the way from N. Vancouver in one day on board “Gulf Island”.

Ladner Lass

Big Bay on Stuart Island
Another early morning. We are heading north with Marko following.  The rest leaving later.  Nice sea, picked up a little around Grief Point named so because of its exposure to westerly winds.  Saw dolphins on our way here.  Past Lund, originally settled by the Thulin brothers in 1890, and past Squirrel Cove.  Perfect timing for the Yucaltas.  These rapids can run up to 18 km/h.  Betty called Big Bay Community docks on Stuart Island and they have lots of room for us all @ $1. per foot.  Mike and Bob are not far behind.
Tommy Jr (David’ nephew) came over for happy hour and told us about his broken leg.  He recently caught a 72lb salmon.  He’s guiding for Michelle Phiefer tomorrow morning and her husband David E Kelly out the next day.

BYC Outstn Pender Harbour

Overcast and an early morning and we are away from Burrard Yacht Club in North Vancouver. Our engine hours are 1409 & 1487.  There is a good SE blowing off our stern.  Marko & Jamie on “Ladner Lass” are behind us.  I took pictures of Atkinson Lighthouse which was built in 1912. Its foghorn was named “Old Wahoo” and stopped sounding in 1996.  The original Pt Atkinson lighthouse was built in 1875.
Five hours later we and “Ladner Lass” are in Pender Harbour named after hydrographic surveyor Daniel Pender in the 1860’s.  We stay at the BYC outstation in Garden Bay. Our friends from 100 Mile House, Bob & Pat on “On the Edge” are next to arrive. The weather turned sunny.  Betty & Mike on “Shaman 11” arrive early evening.  We have Happy Hour and go to bed early.  Betty has a hot tub.
